Know Your Loved One is Taken Care of

Skilled nursing care is high-level medical care that can only be provided by licensed health professionals, such as registered nurses (RNs) and physical, speech, and occupational therapists. When your loved one has 24/7 access to an onsite skilled nursing facility, you get peace of mind knowing certified and trained medical professionals are seconds away and available to provide 24-hour medical attention.

In order to be certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), skilled nursing facilities must meet strict criteria and are subject to periodic inspections to ensure that quality standards are being met.

Medication Management

Many of our elders have a list of medications they must regularly take to help them manage common conditions such as diabetes, high cholesterol, etc. After a stroke, fall, or serious illness, the list of daily medications increases, making it difficult for elders to keep up with the dosage for each one. A skilled nursing facility keeps track of every elder’s medication schedule, and works to ensure every dose is administered on time and in the appropriate amount.

In-House Therapy

Engaging in daily movement is extremely important to senior health, especially for individuals recovering from an injury. Elders who live alone often become sedentary due to the risk of falling or lack of encouragement. Skilled nursing facilities offer both therapy and physical activities to keep elders moving at their highest functional level. This allows them to restore movement in joints affected by an injury and maintain their function.

Balanced Diet and Nutrition

Proper nutrition is important at all ages, however, it is critical during recovery. Elders recovering from a health issue who live on their own are limited in their mobility, making it difficult and sometimes impossible for them to prepare healthy meals at home. Poplar Grove prepares home-cooked nutrient-dense meals to fit every dietary need.  Liberalized diets are offered and clinical needs are managed.

Social and Spiritual Support

Sudden health changes can take a toll on elders, especially when they are temporarily or permanently unable to enjoy many of the things they used to enjoy. Living at home in isolation leads to depression, which can stall recovery. When living at a skilled nursing facility, your loved one will be surrounded by nurses, staff, and other elders who they can receive social and spiritual support from. Keeping spirits high and socialization is essential to recovery and long term well-being.

Peace of Mind

While you’d like to be with your loved one as often as possible during their recovery, it’s not always possible if you’re working and have a family. Knowing they are in a home-like environment which is safe, comfortable, and being monitored by caring medical professionals gives you peace of mind as you get through each day.
